Passing on Bad Habits To Your Kids
Costanza Rant of the Week :
‘Pass the Parcel’ at children’s parties needs to be OVERHAULED!
That’s right, I said it!….no one has had the guts to say it till now, but as parents we have lost it!!!
When preparing the game ‘pass the parcel’ the modern parent now places a chocolate in every wrapping layer, so everyone wins a prize. This is because it is all about our own child’s feelings and overprotective parenting.
The result is that once each child gets their chocolate after each layer is unwrapped, that child becomes disinterested in the actual game and they drift off and the game is ruined. The birthday child always has to get a prize and the parents often rig the game so the birthday child gets the best chocolate at the end.
When the kids play the game the “original way” all the kids stay focused on the game till the end as there was only one prize and one winner. They also learnt how to lose graciously, and play in the spirit of the game as it was intended. The winner takes all.
By the way- the “music controller” should not be watching the game either! (the big cheat)
I know this hugely important topic:-) is confronting and will create debate, but it needs to be talked about people.
The next thing we will be doing is giving the kids a carrot stick, some tofu and a muesli bar instead of a lolly bag.
Thank you
George
