People Power Stirring the Pot – SA Premier Under Heat
I recently posted a letter on Facebook in regard to the Emergency Services Levy that in simple terms means volunteers have to ‘pay to volunteer’ to protect us. ( which is wrong on so many levels) .
I then sent that letter on to the Heavy Hitters of Emergency Services and hoped they could make a difference with it.
I am pleased to see that on page 5 of today’s Advertiser that ” people power” is starting to stir and some ‘heat'( excuse the pun) is being put on the Government.
Jay Weatherill’s comment is disgraceful.
He said the following ( amongst other things) ” The only thing I would say is that paying people to volunteer is inconsistent with the idea of volunteering”.
Well in my opinion having to pay for the privilege of volunteering is downright UN-AUSTRALIAN!
This is my most political post ever (and I hate politics), but this has to be fixed.
If you wanna make a difference join the petition at advertiser.com.au ( it takes 15 seconds)
*by the way filling out a petition is something I don’t normally do either.
Sorry for getting ‘ fired up’ this early but I can ‘cool down’ now that I have said all that.
Thanks people……
PS- I get tired after watering my garden after 30 minutes, I wonder what it feels like to hold a firehose for a 12 hour shift on a 40 degree day watering someone else’s garden?
